Why Donate to Fowler?

Camp Fowler provides opportunities each summer for children to come and catch a vision of what life can be like. Each year over 1,000 children will

  • swim and canoe in an Adirondack lake
  • engage in activities from arts to nature to recreation
  • eat healthy meals and sing hearty songs
  • be part of a day camp bringing the message of God's love to their own neighborhoods.
  • make new and often life-long friends
  • hear in word and deed that they are loved by God and others
  • and be surrounded by adults who care for and nurture them.

In addition, Fowler ministers to and partners with a wide variety of organizations from the Red Cross who run their Aquatics School at camp to the Lower Eastside Manhattan Girl's Club; from Capital Region Hospice's Camp Erin to the Hudson-Mohawk Lutheran Conference; from a yearly gathering of Muslims who come on a 10 day "Tazkiyat" Retreat to a growing number of intentional spiritual retreats lead by trained Spiritual Directors; from the Capital Region Theological Center to numerous quilting groups.

Camp is subsidized by gifts that allow Fowler to charge approximately $100 less per camper than actual costs. In addition, Fowler gives out between $10-15,000 in scholarship aid each summer to families of campers who need some financial help. This means that any child who wants to come to camp can come. Your generosity will allow this to continue.

While Fowler remains a ministry of the Regional Synod of Albany, Reformed Church in America, it no longer receives any financial help from them. Fowler has to raise approximately $150,000 annually in order to meet its budget AND not change either our pricing or scholarship policies. The Board of Trustees and the Fowler staff think that this is a challenge we can meet. But only with the help of hundreds of others.

Perhaps your church or organization would consider supporting the mission of Camp Fowler. Checks must be made out to "Camp Fowler" and may be sent to: 1790 Grand Blvd, Schenectady, NY 12309. (Please note that checks made out to the "Albany Synod" will not directly reach the camp.)

If you are an individual wishing to make a tax deductible contribution, know that we will make every effort to be good stewards of your gift. We strive to keep our overhead low while providing the best possible experience in both camping and retreating. And know that Fowler welcomes children regardless of creed, color, or nationality.

On behalf of all the children who will come to camp, we thank you in advance.

Bowling for Fowler

How do you raise money for camp?

You play to your strengths.

That's what Jordan Swearingen has been doing for 3 years! Every year (oddly enough!) he has a birthday and every year he invites people to come bowling with him to raise money for the camper scholarship fund. Last year Jordan raised $1,000 and Fowler was able to give out over $13,000 in camper scholarships because of the generosity of Jordan and so many others.

So, what do you say? Want to go bowling?
